The systematic position of the white-clawed crayfish is relatively stable, but sometimes the names of genera and species may change for the sake of greater precision. The freshwater crayfish has been named at a later date as Astacus pallipes, Atlanto-astacus Austropotamobius pallipes pallipes and finally Austropotamobius pallipes.
